My Mo:Dem journey started in 2016 when a good friend convinced me to travel from South Africa to experience the festival. I had been working in the events industry since 2013 and it was a dream to be part of a festival outside South Africa. Mo:Dem really blew me away. In 2018 I got involved with the team and havenโ€™t looked back since.

One moment that stayed with me was the opening of Mo:Dem Mutations at the Swamp. The crew went through a lot during COVID and there was a time we didnโ€™t know if the festival would happen again. When the stage finally opened, the feeling was overwhelming, a lot of happy tears. It reminded me how strong the connection within the crew is and why we do what we do. Every Hive opening has its own magic too, when you can feel the hard work come together with the energy on the dancefloor.

Iโ€™m based on site for about seven months each year, which I feel really lucky about. My role is quite broad, I work on developing our event management and gate entry system BACKSTAGE, and Iโ€™m also in charge of crew welfare, merchandise, gate management, ticketing, customer relations and the online shop. The part I enjoy most is working with the crew and making sure they have what they need on site. Iโ€™ve learned a lot, especially thanks to the trust given to me by Tomy and Iโ€™ve had the chance to grow with freedom, helping me develop professionally and personally.

The crew feels like a family. When you spend that much time together, you grow alongside each other and build friendships that last well beyond the festival. What I appreciate most is how much care goes into not just the music and visuals, but the experience for both crew and attendees. Iโ€™m just happy to keep contributing where I can.

When Mo:Dem first started, there were very few events like it. As itโ€™s grown, itโ€™s brought a more underground sound to a wider audience while staying true to its roots. For me, it represents a space where people come together around something a bit different, with a lot of care going into creating that experience.
